“Your health is your real wealth.” ~Mahatma Gandhi
In the last 3.5 days I have all but become a permanent fixture on my couch. Surrounded by snot rags, Ricola wrappers and cozy blankets, I have slept more, watched more TV and complained more than I have in the last 5 years. I also have been violently slapped in the face with the knowledge that without your health you have nothing.
Seriously, I haven’t been sick in over 5 years. Not a head cold, not a sick stomach, nothing! I pride myself in my immune system’s strength. I attribute it to my lifestyle of regular exercise, quality nutrient dense food, adequate sleep and a positive attitude. Oh… and I avoid sick people like the frickin’ plague!
This time though, I couldn’t avoid the sick person. Marcus caught this bug from a guy coughing all over him on the plane and brought it home. I tried keeping my hands clean and followed him around with all the essential oils and hippy dippy feel good things I could think of. When he continued to regress, he dove into the Mucinex and I soon followed suit.
In the past when I have had a cold, getting out and moving has helped. It makes me mentally feel better, which makes me physically feel better. Saturday was my birthday and since we couldn’t be ripping turns in the 5 feet of fresh powder up in Tahoe, we decided to brave a walk outside (pictured below). The 3 miles of doddling, literally took EVERYTHING I had. We followed it by 8 hours straight on the couch.
I’m not writing this to complain. I know I just have a massive cold/flu thing going on and it could be SO MUCH WORSE! But this short post is just a reminder to us all to continue to make lifestyle choices that benefit our health. Because, seriously without it, we have nothing! Oh… and don’t take feeling good for granted either. Appreciate each day and be thankful for the healthy, strong, able body you do have.
